I just had the most uncomfortable fly-down moment. I went to the medic on the lot to take a look at the massive bug bite on my ankle. I sat down on the plastic paper-covered-chair and lifted my leg. I looked down just in time to notice that my fly was down. I quickly zipped it up and said something to the effect of "whoops"! It's one thing to find your fly unzipped when you're sitting or standing across someone. But when you're sitting down and they are standing right next to you, right over you...well, it's not the most comforting feeling. It was sooo awkward. Andrew said to me, "I thought that never happened to girls." Well, what does he think? That we just pull our pants over our asses to go to the bathroom? We unbutton and unzip just like any other guy. And when I pull up my pants, I button and then zip. Is that how most people do it? It must be...that's why you've got a bunch of jack asses like me running around with their fly undone. I think I'll take a survey...

I'm determined to find someone who does it the other way around...
Braden - buttons then zips (he says because zippering first means commiting to where on your waist your pants will sit....hahahaha)

So, I have yet to find someone who is completely committed to zipping first. There are a few half-asses who claim to do both, but I don't know how much I believe them. Stay tuned...the survey shall continue.

I can't believe it...someone who actually does it that way! Her response: "i can't believe u asked that, i always wonder about that, like how could your fly be down, i thought everyone knew u always zip first, duh..."

I was actually thinking about this yesterday and was going to amend my answer to include the button fly first *then* top button (which is sort of like zipper first), for button flys. But I didn't even THINK about dress pants...

ONLY people who button then zip will find their fly undone. but the thing is...i don't think i can change. i want to, but i don't know if i can. it's the obsessive side of me. i've been BTZ-ing for so long, that i don't know if i can make the switch. braden made a good point about building a foundation for the zip up. it always goes a lot smoother when you button/clasp first. but in doing so it has left me as a compulsive fly checker...which still surprises me that i let myself get into the fly-down situation. usually i'm so good at constantly checking. i need to seriously re-consider my methods...

This is fascinating to me. I have, for as long as I remember, been a zip first, THEN button kind of girl. I had no idea there were so many people out there doing the opposite. My whole world outlook has changed. I mean, to the extent that a zipper/button revelation can change your worldview.
Can I also recommend that those of you who find your fly down regularly try switching over... I can't remember the last time it happened to me, so there's that.

Usually dress pants that have 2 buttons at the top, I zip first, the button, then do the clasp at the top of the zipper. Jeans I tend to button first. It really varies. Is that enough detail for your disbelieving ass? Do I have to demonstrate or something?
