Myleen is getting married...in two days! I can't believe this day is finally here. It seems like just last week she was telling me how he proposed. And as if it were just yesterday that we were ferociously trying to put those blasted invitations together. Ha. September 8, 2007. 9-8-7. Myleen and Chris are getting mawwied. Awww.
Two days before the big day, and I, the Maid of Honor, have not yet written my toast. Yikes. First off, I'm not a public speaker. What am I going to say and how am I going to say it in front of 150 friends and family?! I'm just feeling a wee bit of some anxiety over it. A wee bit. So here I am, writing a blog, about having to write a toast. A little much, you think? Well, if it helps...score! Just consider it to be my notes...my outline...
I need to think of a good story to tell in the middle. Myleen and I have so many funny stories...but I think most of them err on the side of completely ridiculous. Like the time we were wrestling on Mom and Dad's bed and she scratched me on the neck and I started to bleed pretty badly. Oh wait...or was it the other way around? I scratched her? Hmmm. There was the time when we had to clean our room (we shared at the time), but we were also mad at each other. That day I kept getting bloody noses and that night she whipped a pair of pants at me, hitting my face and it started another bloody nose. I think I had to go to the emergency room after that. More ridiculous...I used to chase her around the house carrying dead flies by their wings. She would scream. Haha. We once glued brown lunch bags (they had smurfs on them) to our wall in our bedroom. We wanted to have little personal mailboxes. Man oh man, did we hear it from Dad about that. My goodness na-man! Or there was the time when Mom got so mad that our room was so messy, she told us that if we could not keep it clean, then it wasn't going to be our room anymore. That night, she made us sleep in the laundry room. Haha! It was ridiculous! In high school, I always wanted to borrow her clothes and shoes. She hated when I borrowed stuff. I would tell everybody in school that my cute top was from "My Sister's Closet". We always thought we would open a clothing store one day with that name. But just last June, she went to Arizona to visit our cousins Gladys and Aloma, and there it was...a store called "My Sister's Closet". It was a day of mourning...for sure.
Growing up, Myleen, being the girly girl that she always was, was always pulling ideas for her future wedding. When our old sister Robee got married and used red as her color...I remember Myleen was upset. "I wanted to use red for my wedding!" Mind you, she didn't even know Chris at the time. But looking at it now, plum purple is perfect for her. She has always been a purple people eater person...just like our mother. And orchids! That's very much a Gamo-girl thang. I hope this wedding turns out to be everything she ever wished for and more.
Now Chris, he's a great guy. It's funny to see them two together...he's soo tall and she's soo short. Haha. But he really is a cool guy...very mellow, smart, good-looking and great for my sister. We all liked him from the beginning...when they first started dating. He quickly became part of the family. Even my parents liked him early on...which is extremely rare. Ha. But really, he is like a brother to all of us and we're so excited to have him as an official part of our family.
Let's see...I think I'm at a stalemate. But this should be enough to get me started at least. Oy vey. Public speaking...someone hold me.
